Hamid Eltgani Ali, originally from ELfasher, Sudan, graduated from the University of Khartoum in 1988. He lived in the USA from 1989-2008. Ali is associate professor and chair of the Department of Public Policy and Administration at the American University in Cairo (AUC), one of the founders of the public policy program and former Director of Master of Global Affairs at AUC. Prior to joining AUC, Ali worked at the US Federal government, taught at Southern Methodist University and Texas State University. Ali obtained his PhD degree in economics and public policy from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. In 2008, Ali was appointed as assistant professor of economics and public policy at AUC’s Department of Public Policy and Administration. In 2013, Ali was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure at AUC’s Department of Public Policy and Administration. In 2013, he was appointed as the chair of the department. He is actively involved with parties towards peaceful democratic transition in Sudan. Ali is author of the edited book "Darfur Political Economy: A Quest for Development" by Routledge 2014. Ali published numerous articles in English outlets and served in editorial board of academic journals.
