Jo-ar Herrera Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera of the Philippine Army is currently the battalion commander of the 53rd Infantry (MATAPAT) Battalion. He was the Spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) during the crisis which resulted from the Marawi siege in 2017.

Described as the soft spoken military officer in the middle of war, Herrera was admired by many because of his calmness and charm in his media and public appearances during the war in Marawi. Herrera is from the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1999. Also considered as one of the many smart military officers in the command, Herrera is a Scout Ranger who topped his class in Psychological Operations (Psyops) Course in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Herrera also holds a master's degree in Social and Development Studies which he took from the University of the Philippines in Baguio City.

In 2019, Herrera completed a Command and Staff Course in Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College in Singapore.
