Description edit

Padpilot is the registered trade name for an iPad application which specialises in delivering knowledge to commercial pilots or pilots training for their commercial licence. The delivery platform allows individuals and organisations to download books, created in a proprietary format, and read them off-line. Padpilot is also used as a micropublishing site which enables any professional pilot to submit for publication any aviation related material of suitable depth and quality into the system.

Books are created as a series of bitmapped images which capture text and graphics as a single image for each page. Additional layering allows the author to superimpose animated and interactive elements such as video, audio, slide shows and scrolling text. This technical approach allows the original format to be very closely controlled and preserved but at the expense of some interactivity. Similar systems are in common use for many magazines and journals published for the iPad.

Version History edit

The system is currently at Version 1.00 and was first published in the App Store on 25th March 2011.

Publications edit

The principal publication offered by Padpilot is the complete ATPL(A) theory course for the EASA ATPL.

Uses edit

Padpilot is currently used by two UK CAA approved training organisations: Cabair International Ltd and ProPilot Ltd [1].
