Nike History

edit

A brief history of Nike; Nike began its long journey to what it is today one day in 1955 when track athlete, Phil Knight made a phone call to Tiger shoes and officially became a distributor for them in the United States. The next “big” movement forward that occurred was the partnership that was developed between Knight, and track coach, Bill Bowerman in 1964 to create Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS). The 1970s held major advancements in BRS including the development of today’s symbol the “Swoosh”, BRS expanded its marketing and sales procedures, and finally BRS landed its first athlete endorser, Steve Prefontaine. The 1980s were a rough decade fore Nike, there were many ups and downs, but through all of this Nike still landed major athlete endorsers, Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson. The 1990s stood as another huge jump forward for Nike, they began to focus more on certain sports as a whole designing uniforms, etc. and landed another big name athlete endorser, Tiger Woods.[2][3]

Design

edit

The design and layout for these shoes was created with the new "hip" style in mind and with extreme sports in mind. Design features of these shoes consist of extra padding and other unique features such as shoe lace guards, proper grip, and air bubbles to enhance the shoes for these sports. All of these designed aspects support the making of these shoes and their purpose of supporting extreme sport. They all also support the athletes and what the sports call for. The shoes designed extra padding enables users to withstand the harsh beatings the feet take in these extreme sports, while other features such as the shoe lace guards simply protect the shoe laces from ripping while being used. The grip of the shoes allows athletes to properly preform in their given sports and the shoe soles were also made with the harsh beatings in mind; the soles are extremely supportive and in some cases have extra cushioning with air bubbles.[4]
