The Guildford and Swan Volunteer Rifles were a volunteer regiment raised in the Guildford and Swan Valley area of Western Australia in the 1860's. The Guildford Rifles initially with a mounted company as well as a foot company, additional mounted and foot companies were also to be established at York, the mounted companies would later become the Australian Light Horse. Along the existing Fremantle Rifles and Perth Rifles they would be attached to the Sussex Rifles with 50 names added to declaration of the Sussex Volunteers.[1] Only July 1 1903 with the transfer of control to the recently established Australian Federal Government the 1st Western Australian Infantry Regiment become the 11th Australian Infantry Regiment.[2] On the 19 September 1911 the regiment celebrated its Jubilee commemorating 50 years of unbroken service.[2]
