The image on the right shows the log probability of an article (main namespace) having N external links for both German Wikipedia (in black), and english Wikipedia (in red). From this graph we can see that english articles which have many links have many more links than german articles with many links.

  • User:Gmaxwell/externalmania/de - Articles with more than 19 external links on De (925 pages)
  • User:Gmaxwell/externalmania/en - Articles with more than 29 external links on En (6947 pages,>19 was 14,487 pages and I couldn't get it to save)
  • User:Gmaxwell/extff - Top linked file extensions on external links for English Wikipedia. Interesting because we show a fair number of links to things like EXE which should not be linked.

Domain resolution

edit

Domain resolution may be a good lower bound proxy metric for external link quality. Links which do not work can be removed without dispute or concern as long has someone has found them.

  • EN: 60,863 domains from the set of 606,652 syntatically valid domains that enwiki articles link to were selected at random. Of these, 1.8% (1105) fail to resolve.
  • DE: 22,942 domains from the set of 229,425 syntatically valid domains that dewiki articles link to were selected at random. Of these, 0.9% (222) fail to resolve.
