Scott Richard Gerst (born 30 June 1966)is an American Photographer.


Biography:

Born and raised in Burlington Iowa. He moved to Manhattan in 1995; picking up a handy cam one weekend and directed his first music video.

Career:

He picked up a handy cam one weekend & directed his first music video, which was subsequently screened in film festivals and broadcast on LoGo/MTV.

In 2005, Gerst transitioned to still photography, initially concentrating on men. By mid 2010, Gerst had logged one of the top selling issues of the international print magazine DNA ever recorded.

In 2011 Gerst published his premier photo monograph Defensio, marking a closure to his homo-centric, digitally acquired oeuvre while simultaneously serving as social commentary. The book, a limited edition (50 copies) hand bound photo essay, sold out to private collectors before going to press, referencing classical literature, male bonding, sport, and “V for Vendetta”. Soon after, Milan fashion guru and instructor Stefano Guerrini remarked at GQ Italia, “From the work that Ritts has left to us Gerst has inherited . . . Richard is on track to become one of the most important photographers of his generation.”
