N. Genez was an American Artist. He passed away in 2015 at his home in EastPointe, Michigan. Genez’s fusion of realism with abstraction was developed through rigorous practice during multiple years of incarceration. Genez used charcoal, pencil, and occasional watercolors.

He was able to showcase the ominous and somber world of prison, while still creating depth and meaning in his works. He frequently focused on gloomy and eerie colors. Many of his works depict this style with detailed dark landscapes juxtaposed by dynamic views.

Genez’s works also told stories, for example a piano concert with the entire audience and orchestra drawn in pencil. The only color was the female pianist. Another example depicts prisoners being visited by religious zealots while they attempt to convert the confined captives.
