User:Gigs/Featured content

As a community, we place a lot of focus on the creation of "audited content", such as good and featured articles. The main page would be a much more boring place if it weren't for this content. These articles give us something to be proud of and something to show off to the wider world.

In a sense, however, this is just window dressing. If Wikipedia were a city, it would have a few beautiful skyscrapers surrounded by vast miles of shantytown. The editors who spend their time cleaning up, deleting, and improving the worst articles on Wikipedia should be recognized as doing work that is just as important, if not more important, than maintaining the nicest parts of Wikipedia.
