Berea College Danforth Chapel (1938)
Berea College, located in Berea, Kentucky, is home to the second William H. Danforth Chapel, built in 1938. This chapel was built upon fifty-four stones gifted to Danforth to be used in the creation of the chapel built by architects James P. Jamieson, George Spearl, and Charles Cellarius[1]. This gothic style building was intended to demonstrate the relationship between spirituality and education[2].
North Carolina State College Danforth Chapel (1957)
The North Carolina State College Danforth Chapel was built in 1957. Unfortunately, only 20 years later in 1975, it was leveled to make room for the College of Design[3].
Arizona State University (1948)
Arizona State University, located in Tempe, Arizona, completed the construction of the campus's Danforth Chapel in 1948. William H. Danforth donated $5,000 to the campus with the students raising the rest of the money for the construction of the chapel[4]. The ASU Danforth Chapel, like many of the other Danforth Chapels, has been used for several weddings and religious ceremonies, as well as a place for rest for students and others alike[5].
Florida Southern College Danforth Chapel (1955)
The Danforth Chapel at Florida Southern University was completed in 1955 by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright[6][7]. While Wright designed several buildings on the FSU campus, the Danforth Chapel is the only building that he did on the campus that contained leaded glass work[6].
Morehouse College Danforth Chapel (1955)
Designed by architect Edward C. Miller, the Morehouse College Danforth Chapel was built in 1955. Danforth's involvement in Morehouse College led to his donation of the Danforth Chapel; only requiring that it be called the Danforth chapel and have a copy of Henrich Hoffman's Painting Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane[8]. William H. Danforth not only donated a meditation and religious chapel to this school but also funded scholarships for many of the students[8].
