Outdoor Idaho is a weekly television documentary series produced by Idaho Public Television. Since its inception in 1983, Outdoor Idaho has produced more than 300 long-form (half-hour and hour-long) documentaries that explore the beauty and drama of nature while examining the significant issues facing Idaho and the American West. The subjects are far-ranging, with titles like “50 Years of Wilderness,” “Barns of Idaho[1][2],” “Pend Oreille Country,” “Idaho’s 12ers,” “Hops & Barley,” “Urban Wildlife,” and “Sawtooths on My Mind.”
Bruce Reichert was the host from 1988[3] through 2022 and he also served as executive producer and writer/producer. The current Outdoor Idaho team consists of producers Lauren Melink and Forrest Burger and director/videographer Jay Krajic. Other contributors include Bill Manny, Marcia Franklin, Joan Cartan-Hansen and Kris Millgate.

Outdoor Idaho got its start in 1983. A partnership consisting of writer Royce Williams from the Idaho Fish & Game Department, and producer/director Peter Morrill from Idaho Public Television created the half-hour program. The show was originally filmed in the KAID studio in Boise, Idaho, with host Doug Copsey and videographer/editor Jeff Tucker.
In 1990, Idaho Public Television became the sole producer of Outdoor Idaho, with Bruce Reichert as the main writer/producer/host. Sauni Symonds and Pat Metzler were the primary director/videographer/editors.
Over the years, many staff members have produced and written for the show, including John Crancer, Sauni Symonds, Peter Morrill, Jeff Tucker, Marcia Franklin, Joan Cartan-Hansen, Aaron Kunz, Melissa Davlin, Kris Millgate, Seth Ogilvie, Thanh Tan, Roger Fuhrman, Vicky Osborn, and Jim Peck.
In the nearly four decades of its existence, the program has had various videographers and directors, including Jeff Tucker, Al Hagenlock, Peter Morrill, Ricardo Ochoa, Clayton Rye, James Morgese, Sauni Symonds, Pat Metzler, Jay Krajic, Alberto Moreno, Forrest Burger, Aaron Kunz, and Kris Millgate.

Outdoor Idaho has won hundreds of national and regional awards, including 19 Emmys, more than a dozen Edward R. Murrow awards, dozens of Telly and Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival awards, as well as CINE, New York Film Festival, and Society of Professional Journalists awards.
Most awards have been in the Public Affairs, Environment, Informational, Videography, News Documentary, and Conservation categories. Other categories include Travel & Tourism, TV Writing, Sports, and Best Use of Social Media.
