Task

The task for this lesson will involve you adding new information to wikipedia and is a bit complicated so please ask if it is not clear. Using the Random page button, you can find it in the menu to the left of the page, open an article. Then do the following:

  1. Do a google search on the subject of the article
  2. open up a respectable website concerning the subject (eg NOT a blog)
  3. Find 1 original fact and add it to the subjects article, in your own words
  4. Add a named inline citation with the fact, using a cite template
  5. Add a section headed References to the article if there is not already one, with the {{References}} template underneath the heading

Repeat this for 2 more articles.

Once completed leave an external link to each of change you have made below and sign your name. You can find the link to changes by:

  1. Click on the history tab
  2. Click on the top most (prev) of your edits
  3. Copy and paste the link
  4. Add ~~~~ at the end of your answer

Inline Citation Added Fact Marx01 (talk)

Final edit (I also made the previous 3 edits, which is when I put in the fact, and the one directly after this edit, which I cleaned up what I wrote.) Marx01 (talk) 00:44, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

I fixed the typos after this :) Marx01 (talk) 02:07, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

One point to make, don't move references from under the reference section that you didn't add, unless you have access to that book/website and know which part of the article it refers to.
Wait I just looked back at the revisions I made and I removed it but I put it back in using the {{reflist}} and citing after mine (which was at the end of the article) because it wasn't clear where the editor used that reference. I only removed it and replaced it so the the {{reflist}} wasn't confusing. Sorry I'm not attempting to argue; I just feel like that would be best for the article in general. Ok. Slight problem here. When adding inline citations I asked for you to use a cite template which can be found on the help page. Another point I have to make is that you don't need to say "website.com said that...", just put the fact. Please do 2 more using a cite template please.

I'll get to it as soon as possible. Sorry usually when I hear inline citations I think Research Paper and how my teacher drilled us about how she wanted inline citations. I may not be able to get to it today. Marx01 (talk)

I ran into some trouble with this one. EvangelineTalk 04:33, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Ok, don't worry. If you're having trouble with the {{cite}} templates I have found that you can get a tool bar button that helps you with them. If you go back to the information page, I have added how to get the button to the advanced section of the page. If your having trouble with anything else please be ore specific so I can help you.

Thanks! I've corrected the article. Corrected Conche article EvangelineTalk 06:41, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
