Proper Name: George Baldwin Laban or George B. Laban, b. 1944 in Boston, MA. I was brought up in Winchester, MA with 4 siblings (2 older brothers, Tony and John, a twin sister Gretchen, and a younger sister Kary). I graduated from Winchester High School in 1972, Hope College in Holland, MI in 1972 with a BA in Sociology, and the Wharton Graduate School at the University of Penn in 1972 with an MBA in Health Care Administration.
The first Laban in America (that I am aware of) was Anthony Laban, my paternal grandfather; b.1875 in Holland (or Netherland). He arrived in Boston, MA. in 1891 from Zeeland, Tolland, Holland. He was married in 1908 in Boston, MA to Mary Magdalen Sharkey. She is my maternal grandmother, b. 1881 on Prince Edward Island, Canada). Her family came to the PEI (circa 1840s) from County Monaghan in Ireland . She arrived in Boston in 1901 from Prince Edward Island. The name Laban was changed in Holland from Loban (earlier it may have been Lobban} about 1620 by Willem Thomas Loban; b.1596 in Scotland. HIs father was Thomas Loban b. 1975 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Anthony and Mary lived in Weston, MA on the estate of a Wool merchant, Edward (?) Pierce where Anthony was the head Butler and I assume the estate manager. My father Peter Laban (a wool salesman) grew up in Weston and married Katrine Mary Colvocoresses from Humbolt, AZ. in 1938 (or so) in Arizona. She graduated cum laude in English with a BA from Wellesley College (MA) in 1935. She was a state certified reference librarian at the Winchester Public Library for over 20 years.
