Bill Boyd - Crystalline glaze potter, ceramic artist

edit

Bill Boyd is one of the world's leading crystalline glaze potters. His work is exhibited in Europe and North America, and he is regularly featured in ceramics publications.

Bill Boyd began making pottery in 1970 in Sweden, where after attending art school he worked with several talented potters and taught ceramics. During this time he produced earthenware, gas-fired stoneware and wood-fired stoneware in kilns he designed and built. Over time, the Scandinavian influence melded with an Asian aesthetic, bringing Boyd to his signature work of classic simplicity.

Since 2002, his traditional forms have become the venue for explorations into crystalline glazing. This challenging, relatively new glazing process is often avoided by potters because of the difficulties inherent in the process.

Bill Boyd lives with his artist wife Jade on Galiano Island in the Southern Outer Gulf Islands of British Columbia. [1]
