Petersen's 4 Wheel & Off-Road (Primedia Publishing) or Petersen's magazine is an American monthly magazine devoted to off-road motorists and their vehicles.

History

Petersen's 4 Wheel & Off-Road began in 1977 with four "one shot" magazines, checking the marketability of the genre. The magazine went monthly in March 1978 with Mike Anson as editor. The magazine has been in publication since.

4x4 of the Year

One of the premier honors for automakers, the 4x4 of the Year award is based upon several factors that test a vehicles pavement manners, off road capability, creature comforts, and various general impressions.

Reader's Rides

A section of the magazine is dedicated to readers who wish to have their vehicles shown to the public. Once a year the entire magazine is dedicated to readers rides, with different sections on groups of vehicles.

Ultimate Adventure

The Ultimate Adventure, or UA, is the highlight of the year for Petersen's. Staff, vendors, and selected readers venture on a week long road trip in an area of the country, visiting ORV parks along the way.
