CITY College is the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield in Thessaloniki, Greece. CITY College was established in 1989 in Thessaloniki. In 2009 CITY College started its operation as the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield. It is the 6th faculty of the British University and the only one located overseas. It is the first time for a College outside the UK to become ‘Faculty’ of a British University. Bridging the UK with the South East Europe, education with the business world, national cultures with international business practices, CITY College’s vision is the pursuit, dissemination and application of knowledge in various fields. CITY offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as the prestigious Executive MBA programme. CITY’s academic community comprises students and academic staff with more than 15 countries of origin.

The mission of CITY College is to maintain the highest standards of quality as an Institution of Higher Education employing staff who work at the frontiers of academic enquiry and follow the developments of the real worlds in order to educate students to become experts in their disciplines and at the same time develop into well-rounded cultures personalities who will contribute to the creation of a civilized society.

CITY College has four buildings at the centre of Thessaloniki.

The Tsimiski building
The Tsimiski building is an impressive 5-storey neoclassical building, on the main street of Thessaloniki, which houses the college’s administration centre.

The STEIN building
The Stein building, built in 1906, is one of the few historical buildings of Thessaloniki that survived the great, destructive fire of 1917 intact. Its history is tightly bound to the history of the city. Today it belongs to CITY, housing the college’s modern auditorium, the Executive Conference Room, the Student Hall and many lecture halls, the Executive Education Centre (EXED) and academic and administration staff offices.

The Stratigakis building
The Stratigakis building is CITY’s third building in the heart of Thessaloniki. It hosts the South East European Centre (SEERC), the Careers Office, the Counselling Centre, a number of lecture halls and private study rooms and academic and administration staff offices.

The Leontos Sofou building
The Leontos Sofou Building is CITY’s newest building that was added to the College’s campus in April 2009. CITY premises are located on the 6th and 7th floor of this building in a space taking up approximately 2000 square metres. Completely renovated, this building houses the state of the art facility, Information & Learning Commons (ILC), CITY’s entire library collection, PC labs, conference rooms, study and social spaces and many others.

The University of Sheffield is one of the oldest British Universities. It is a research-led university, located in Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England and is a member of the Russell Group.

The University of Sheffield is rated 8th in the UK, 24th in Europe, and 77th in the world in the annual academic ranking of the top 500 universities worldwide published in August 2008 by China's Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

THE-QS World University Rankings

In the 2008 Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings, the University of Sheffield is rated 13th in the UK, 26th in Europe and 76th in the world.

Research Assessment Exercise 2008 edit

Upon successful completion of their studies CITY graduates receive their degree directly by the University of Sheffield.

CITY is accredited and recognized by prestigious and international accreditation bodies. In addition, a number of British professional bodies award membership to CITY graduates.

Association of the MBAs (AMBA)

The Executive MBA programme run by CITY College in Thessaloniki, Belgrade and Bucharest has unconditional accreditation by the Association of MBAs(AMBA).

National Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom (NARIC)

British Computer Society (BCS)

The academic Accreditation and Exemptions Committee of British Computer Society agreed to the following levels of accreditation and exemption for CITY College’s BSc in Computer Science and MSc in Software engineering and Telecommunications graduates: Full exemption (from professional examinations) and Partial BEng accreditation fulfilled the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineers). CITY graduates automatically become members of the BCS.

British Psychological Society (BPS)

The British Psychological Society (BPS) is awarding membership to BSc in Psychology CITY graduates who apply.

The Executive MBA (EMBA) edit

CITY College, International Faculty of the University of Sheffield, is offering the Executive MBA programme of the University of Sheffield. CITY College has been offering the programme across South East Europe since 1993.

The programme is delivered simultaneously in three different cities: Thessaloniki, Bucharest and Belgrade.

Specifically designed and addressed to executives and top managers, the programme consists of two cycles of lectures and is completed in 14 weekends (classes 1 weekend per month). Due to this mode of study executives need not interrupt their career in order to participate in the course. Participants can choose between 4 different tracks:

  • MBA in General Management
  • MBA in Marketing
  • MBA in Finance and
  • MBA in Logistics Management

In addition, participants from all MBA prgrammes meet for joint classes on 2 weekends in Thessaloniki and 1 Study Week at the University of Sheffield. Upon successful completion of the course graduates are awarded with a University of Sheffield MBA degree.

The Executive MBA of CITY College is taught by international faculty to participants of approximately 10 different countries of origin.

Executive Diploma in Strategic Management & Leadership by CMI edit

CITY’s Executive MBA programme has been accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). CITY’s MBA graduates have the opportunity to receive an Executive Diploma in Strategic Management & Leadership by the CMI along with the Sheffield MBA degree.

South East Europe Research Centre (SEERC) edit

Continuous research is fundamental to CITY’s mission not only to disseminate but also to promote knowledge. The University of Sheffield and CITY College have jointly established the South East European Research Center, an international, non-profit research center aiming to support the stable and peaceful development of the region with pure and applied research.
