Open Access in Libya is facilitated through two open access journals and Libya based researchers publish in international open access journals.

Open access journals edit

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) indexes two open access journals: Open Veterinary Journal published by the National Authority for Scientific Research & Alfateh University and the International Journal of English Language and Translation.[1]

Libya based researchers edit

Researchers from Libya publish articles in international open access journals, for example in 2013 four research articles have been published with BioMed Central, an STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) publisher, and among them are highly accessed (most viewed) articles authors from: the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences - Gomail, the University of Al Jabal Al Gharbi Al Zawia, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Al Fateh University.[2]

Digital libraries edit

The Libyan Academy of Graduate Studies has initiated an ETD digital library project to build a digital library for theses and dissertations, the first of its kind in Libya. The project is based on the Greenstone open source software platform.[3]
