Matagi (Dog)

The Matagi (マタギ犬 Matagi-inu) was a mid-sized hunting dog that lived in the Tohoku and Hokkaido regions of Japan. They were possibly introduced to Japan from the Korean peninsula[1]. Fossil remains of Matagi dogs have been discovered in the Akita region, dating from 8000BC to 200BC.

The Matagi dog was used to hunt deer, serow and bears.
