History

edit

The Tennessee Farm Bureau got its start in June 1921. Efforts to provide an insurance service to farmers dates to 1926 when State Farm Insurance contracted with the Tennessee Farm Bureau to become a state agency. In 1925, offices were rented in Columbia, Tennessee, in the upstairs of a building that is now known as the ancestral home of the 11th President of the United States, James K. Polk.[1]

In 1948, the Tennessee Farm Bureau branched into Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee and rooted its corporate headquarters in Columbia, Tennessee, in 1968. Its services are offered through agents located in every county in Tennessee. FBITN is currently a leading writer of property insurance in Tennessee, the number one life insurance provider in the state, and the number two provider of auto insurance. [2]
