IMMIGRATION ISSUES

edit

INTRODUCTION

edit

Immigration is when someone enters a foreign country to live there permanently such people are called immigrants. Immigration however causes issues in soceity which brings benefits and costs to society as a whole. Those that are for immigration believe that it has the ability to bring about global prosperity, but those opposing immigration argue that the jobs available in the country and the nation's wealth are its property and that allowing immigration implies the distribution of this property among the non-natives. Immigration implies the distribution of a nation's wealth to those who do not have a right on it.

THE ADVANTAGES OF IMMIGRATION

edit

Immigration has benefits to people that move to other countries because they may benefit from jobs and therefore this may lead to better living standards for them because the country they move to might be more developed then their home countries. Good education for immigrants is also a benefit because they might have moved in search of a better education for their kids.Immigration results in an open global market which results in the promotion of economic growth which enrichens the prosperity of a country. It gives a global perspective to the social and economic growth of society, thus broadening the opportunity for development. The country also gets new and usually very motivated workers with new ideas and a different approach to doing jobs this helps a country to expand its economy. Businesses benefit from lower labour costs because immigrants are more willing to get paid lower wages than citizens that were born in the country where immigrants have immigrated to. Hiring immigrants promotes workforce diversity which also promotes the business image of being anti-discriminative. To some extent, immigration may result in a partial distribution of population. Migration of people from an abundantly populated country to a scarcely populated country balances population density in terms of numbers.

THE DISADVANTAGES OF IMMIGRATION

edit

The downside of immigration is that it dilutes a country’s cultural identity because too much immigration changes the native culture. Sometimes immigration is done illegally which leads to some immigrants doing unlawful activities, for example joining terrorist groups and gangs which can lead to social unrest in society.Businesses may indulge in exploiting workers and paying them lower wages just because they have illegally moved into a country which gives them no option but to except them. Immigration can also rip a country off its resources because some immigrants may go study or work in another country in order to gain experience and then move back to their home countries once they have obtained the knowledge and experience. Immigration however also leads to over-population which leads to bad living conditions, fewer living spaces and jobs available which can also lead to crime and in extreme cases even poverty. Immigration can lead to language barriers this can lead to challenges when conducting business. Some are against immigration on the grounds of brain drain because according to some people in soceity, sharing of knowledge between nations, is regarded by others as, knowledge drain because when a nation loses its people to another country, it also loses its talents in the form of knowledge. A poor country might end up giving up its educated minority to other wealthier countries, owing to immigration.Immigrants may bring along with them, diseases that were oringinaly derived from their country. Disease-causing agents may travel from one country to another through immigrants, thus leading to the spreading of diseases, for example bird flue of HIV & AIDS.

CONCLUSION

edit

I am for immigration even though it has major disadvantages because it benefits the society a great deal in terms of its economy and also to society because immigrating can lead to a better source of income and better living standards in the pursuit of survival because we all know that good living standards leads to a better living.
