Onelungo ponds

Onelungo is an open space or a pond in the nothern part of namibia located in Ombandjele village few kilometers from Outapi town in Omusati region,where water collects when it rains Onelungo.

history

The site is linked to important to the Mbalantu oral traditions. Before the people could catch fish, only one could be caught, taken to the King's residence, roasted and thrown back in. After this ritual the fishing season could start. It was believed to be the pond of god's activities due to the fact that some odd things happened there years ago and still happening even though it tend to be weak these years unlike in the past years.

This in heritage place is respected by the Mbalantu people and they praise it as Onelungo lyiinima yaKalunga,thats what ovambo people call it meaning with God's activities or things.It is a source of water and fish for the people around when permitted.
