IIPANDA VILLAGE

Iipanda is a very small village found in the northern parts of Namibia. This village is basically in Omusati region. Iipanda lies 30 kilometers from Outapi town, it is then found at the South of Outapi [1].This village is in Ogongo Constituency, which is in part of the constituencies of Namibia [2] The language that people speak at Iipanda is oshiwambo, specifically oshimbalantu. Iipanda is named after a very precious tree by the name omupanda, a tree mostly found in the northern parts of Namibia. Omupanda is seen as a very good medicine that cures cough and flue and those days when clinics were rare people used this tree. This village is one of the hottest place in the northern Namibia with temperatures ranging between 26 to 30 degree celcius. The Ogongo regional council is situated in this village, whereby it was opened in the year 2008, by Hon Kazenambo Kazenambo the deputy minister of youth in Namibia. [3]. The councilor of Ogongo Constituency is then Hon. W.Iiyambo. Approximately 2000 people live in Iipanda, whereby some people work at the work at the nearby school, which is Iipanda primary school. This people spend most of their time in the field during the rainy season, cultivating mahangu. Mahangu is a staple food of most of the owambo people.

During the dry season when all the pans are dry, people in Iipanda suffers a lot as they have to dig underground in order to get water, otherwise the animals that they keep plus the people will die of thirst. Apart digging underground they take the cattle, donkeys at the nearby canal, which does not dry up and the canal is 15km away.
