8ste Laan

8ste Laan is a new and controversial informal settlement behind the Otjimuise residential area. The City Windhoek of claims that the land they have occupied is meant for recreational purposes and not for housing purposes. The City of Windhoek served the shack owners with evictions because erf 4421 which is inhabited by shack owners was not authorized by them.

Despite all this controversy the 8ste Laan community has gardening project that supplies Khomasdal soup kitchens with vegetables. This gardening project was launched by the founding father of Namibia Dr Sam Nujoma to stop people from depending on the government.
