NABERS
The National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) is a performance-based environmental rating system for existing buildings in Australia. It was originally released in 2000 and it is current administered by the Office of Energy and Heritage of the New South Wales state government.

As opposed to other sustainability tools such as LEED, BREEAM or Green Star, NABERS rates a building on the basis of its measured operational impacts on the environment, rather than on predicted performance or point-based features.
The environmental performance of a building is then communicated in a scale from one to five stars, where 2.5 stars represent the market average performance.
Currently, four types of buildings can be rated under NABERS: homes, commercial offices, hotels and shopping centres, with similar tools being developed for Schools, Hospitals and Data Centres. Buildings can currently be rated in a maximum of four categories, (energy, water, indoor environment and waste), with a new transport category for commercial offices to be released during 2011.
