'Inner circle friendship" ...

Inner circle may refer to a close group of friends.  The size of one's inner circle will vary from person to person.

What distinguishes an inner circle friend from an outer circle friend is the depth of friendship. Such friendship may be measured against values such as: Loyalty - trust - foundation - reciprocation - support - fun - forgiveness - empathy - acceptance - love - honesty - connectivity - commitment - patience - gratitude -respect - understanding.  Foundation can be based on a range of things including going to school or university together, a sexual history, working together and so on. Reciprocation is simply give and take, mutuality in the friendship.

An inner circle is not a physical place but there are times when friendships are strained or friends argue.  In a metaphorical sense one friend could put the other friend into the outer rim of their inner circle until such times as an apology or simplify rectification has occurred.  Where a friendship has deteriorated significantly a friend may place the other friend in their outer circle and in extreme cases the abyss, which metaphorically means no further contact.

A person may tightly guard new entrants to their inner circle and consult other members of the inner circle before granting a new entrant probationary inner circle status.

Close friends of inner circle members are considered inner circle associates and close friends that are not quite ready for the inner circle may be considered inner circle consultants.
