Sock Puppetry edit

I suspect that User:Jupiter Optimus Maximus is a sock of User:YourLord (who has been blocked, and who was operating under the alias of User:Illustrious One until that too was blocked), and who uses many unregistered IP addresses).

(Abbreviations: IO = Illustrious One; JOM = Jupiter Optimus Maximus)

Item:  The signatures, which all bear something of a family resemblance, both in terms of hubris, and in the style of decoration. (The style varies from post to post; one gets the notion the signature is frequently styled by hand on the spot.)

Item:  The timing.

Illustrious One was blocked at 23:14, 23 February 2008 [4]

Jupiter Optimus Maximus first appears at 19:17, 27 February 2008 [5]

Interestingly, the first thing JOM does after creating his user page is to join the discussion of deleting Category:Fictional characters who appear to be somewhat vain or arrogant [6], which IO has been defending.

  • IO: Comment: It is supposed to be funny. That's why it's in the category of Wikipedia: Humour. [7]
  • IO: Thank you Nomeskedasticity, that would be me. Do you mind if I ask why you find the addition of Voldemort particularly amusing? No Relata, if anyone's going to add the category to their user page it's going to be me seeing as I created it. Sesshomaru, clearly you have never heard of the category Chief Dark Lords. Oh and Pichpich it's humorous because it's intentionally ridiculous. I created this category because I think Wikipedia takes itself a bit too seriously these days. Right, I'm off to add Stewie Griffin to the cat before it gets deleted. [8]
  • JOM: Delete I personally find it quite amusing but it's got to go sadly. [9]

Item:  Identically worded attitudes toward vandalism on their user pages.

  • IO: "I also have an interest in the fields of psychology and politics and revert vandalism wherever I find it." [10]
  • JOM: "I am a deletionist and work to prevent sockpuppetry. I also undo vandalism wherever I find it." [11]

(Regarding sockpuppetry, methinks JOM doth protest too much. :-)

Item:  All three users share a fascination with villains from fantasy, TV, and games; a fair number of their edits add various of these characters to ill-conceived categories that routinely get nominated for deletion.

Item:  JOM edits the user page of blocked user IO (naturally to add a category, wanting to be sure we see all of IO's sock puppets) [12]

Item:  on Talk:The 10th Kingdom, IO is blocked in midstream, so JOM picks up the thread. [13]

Observation:  I thought JOM was exhibiting some signs of maturing, and I was a little hesitant to rat on someone who seemed to be learning to behave. But then he pulls something like this on a first-time poster who was clearly only experimenting: [14] In retrospect, he seems to be taking some care to distance himself from IO and to cover his tracks, but the vicious streak seems to hiding just below the surface still.

Disclaimer:  I am not a disinterested party: JOM has responded to some of my talk items with less than temperate language and with what I regard as unreasoning POV. See in particular Talk:White Witch#Categories, yet again. (I suspect many of the Anon postings on this page are also YourLord socks, but many of the socks listed on the IO sock puppet page do not feel to me like the same person.)

Manchester? That city of commoners? Hardly. Elphion, you absolute bitch, I was nice to you! --86.140.231.127 (talk) 13:11, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
