Savely Blumstein was a Jewish art collector who was in Riga.

Nazi era

The Gestapo confiscated valuable art works from the Blumstein's home in 1941. He fled Nazi -occupied Latvia.[1]


Blumstein died in 2009, leaving two sons, Neil and Philip.[2]

Claims and restitution

In 2013, a Chagall painting from his collection was found in the Gurlitt trove, the stash of artworks hidden by the son of Hitler's art dealer, Hildebrand Gurlitt.[3] Experts confirmed that "Allegorical Scene" painted by chagall in the mid-1920 ,had been looted by the Nazis.[4][5]
