Effective Interviewing vs. Torture

Welcome to the WikiProject: Effective Interviewing vs. Torture

The idea here is simple. A new Wikipedia entry has been created and is currently in draft form for the Principles on Effective Interviewing for Investigations and Information Gathering (Mendez Principles). As anyone and everyone can add and edit the page, we are inviting experts and specialists to join this WikiProject and build a community to on Wikipedia. This group of experts will ensure the following:

Page for the Méndez Principles remains updated and unvandalized
All of the best sources are cited at its inception and in the future
Relevant pages on Wikipedia link to the Méndez Principles page
Relevant pages present an accurate description of the science, law and ethics at stake in Effective Interviewing
Translations are created for the Mendez Principles page across Wikipedia in its over 300 languages.

This is valuable for several reasons. First, Wikipedia has become one of the first sites people consult online (often at the the top of Google searches) and is remarkably reliable. We must keep it dependable on this important subject. Next, WikiProjects are easy to build and becoming a common form of collaboration today. Finally, there is a great deal of confusion, sometimes created intentionally, around the most effective methods of interrogation or interviewing. This WikiProject aims to minimize misunderstanding.

There is a large and growing set of people across disciplines and the world who understand the importance of this groundbreaking shift in science and mindset. We can harness that knowledge into an epistemic community that monitors and expands the basic understanding — and often the first engagement — with online information about Effective Interviewing.

This project has been launched in conjunction with ImpleMéndez: Establishing Networks to Implement the Principles on Effective Interviewing for Investigations, supported by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology through CA22128

Update as of 2 Sept 2024

On 16 August 2024 the draft entry for the Méndez Principles was declined (see entry for details). The concern from the reviewer was that the entry did not have enough citations showing how the document had been received by the international community and its impact thus far. This critique properly speaks to the important criteria of "notability" for Wikipedia entries. Revisions have now been made to the entry. The section on "Global Recognition, Citation and Implementation" has been foregrounded and the more that forty citations of the document by United Nations bodies, regional and national documents/jurisprudence have now all been included. The draft has now been resubmitted as of 30 August 2024 and awaits further review.
