Stanford Olsen (January 23, 1960- ) is an American light lyric tenor. Noted for his performances of Mozart and Bel Canto opera, Olsen was recognized by the New York Times as one of the world's up-and-coming Mozart tenors. A three-time Grammy nominee, Olsen has also been extremely successful in concert and recital repertoire, collaborating with many of the world's top orchestras and conductors.
Career
editWinner of the 1986 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Olsen debuted with the company later the same year opposite Dame Joan Sutherland in Bellini's I Puritani, replacing an ailing colleague on an hour's notice. This led to twelve seasons and over 160 performances with the Metropolitan Opera. He has performed in many of the world's premier operatic venues, including Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Scala, Sydney Opera House, Tokyo Opera City, Théâtre du Châtelet, and the San Francisco Opera.
