The Ergot Derivative was a rock band based in the live pub music scene in 1990s Melbourne, Australia [1]. The band was known for its originality and diverse musical styles [2][3] its creativity and originality [4] and for its live performances [5][6]. The Ergot Derivative was formed in 1988 by Anthony MacLeod and Jamie Saxe and grew to a six piece ensemble accompanied by performance artists known as the Freak Squad.[7]


The Ergot Derivative's 1995 album 'Tube Potato' was the first album to be launched online and available for music download[8][9][10][11]
