PERSISTENCE: An Indispensable Ingredient

The nature of the concoction determines the quality and quantity of the required ingredients. The ingredient, also, determine the delicacy and taste of the meal. Life comprises of several concoctions - the desire achievements. Although, the requirements defers, yet there are some irrefutable laws that stimulates their manifestations. Academics, Financial, Family and Spiritual breakthrough; all requires persistence.

Persistence, doggedly pursuing your dreams with determination and burning desire to achieve it, had played key role in the sphere of human inventions. Name it! Have you noticed a thing that human mind desired and acquired without perseverance? Or, can a farmer that lacks it reap any harvest meaningful? Likewise, a student that does not persistently give attention to study can hardly make a remarkable success. Forceful pursuance of a clear-cut goal with all vigor - power, energy and effort - is the path to success.

The known and renowned inventors and landmark achievers had their names written on the marble of life through their tenacity. Should we talk of Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motors and Co? The man who was condemned of being 'ignorant and lack of education' yet, was quoted encouraging his learnt subordinates, " Go ahead and stay on the Job until you succeed, no matter how much time it required" " I want it, and I'll have it". Can you discern his secret of successes -Desire: knowing what you specifically want; Determination: not accepting 'impossible' or 'no' as answer; and above all, persistence.

What of Thomas A. Edison - the inventor of Electric Bulb? He conducted the highest number of experiment on a single research topic, despite criticism from colleagues, before he finally achieved his aim. He has this to tell us on being persistence, " when a man really desire a thing so deeply that he is willing to stake his entire future on a single turn of the wheel in order to get it, he is sure to win. Made up your mind to stand by until you succeeded". You see, the path to success is not always smooth, straight and sordid. But it lies in " keep on keeping on, no matter how hard the going may be" noticed Mr. Darby, " a lesson I needed to learn before I could succeed in anything", he affirmed.

The space and time restrained me; I would have spread out before you the series of experiences that taught this gentle sales executive, Mr. Darby, this great lesson on perseverance. Although he later earned millions of dollar through the sales of life insurance, earlier in life, he had lost a gold mine that would have accrues millions of dollar into his treasuries.

Friends, since you can always quit, why quit now. The power to go far and to stop is in your hand, why will you stop now. Who knows! The next attempts can proffer the desired result. At quarry, a stonecutter may hit a piece of rock for one hundred and one times before it splits. He knows that it’s not the last blow that really breaks the stone. It is the former one hundred blows that do the work. Yet without persistence and additional blow (i.e. 101st), the result will not be known. Keep at it - doggedly pursue your dreams.

Then, what of when it seems success is not forthcoming or if at all one succeed; it may not worth the pain. Do you suggest still hanging on to such a dream or pursue? Oh yes! Many a dreams had been sacrificed on the altar of opinion (ones or others) and emotions of fear. Several endeavors that seem risky are in reality with less or no risk at all and whenever success disguise as failure, then the chance of being successful is high. That age long saying, when things are getting tougher, toughness is getting going, had said it all.

More so, John Dryden said of Ovid, the ancient Roman poet, " As he knew what to say, so he knows also when to leave off; a continence which is practice by few writer". The best way to make brilliant success is to know when to start and appropriate time to quit. Akin to Dryden’s comment, a Yoruba proverb says " He who fight and run live to fight another.

First, know that nothing is really impossible. Thomas A. Edison pointed it out that " when a man really desire a thing so deeply ... he is sure to win". 'No' does not necessary mean no, noticed Mr. Darby. So, if you really believe your beliefs then convictions can transmute into tangibles. Abraham Lincoln does not accept impossible. No wonder, he became one of the best human leaders the world had ever experienced.

Moreover human being are at times limited and shortsighted in planning toward actualizing his dreams. It therefore calls for genuine advice, counsel and guidance from others - experts, people of like minds and mentors. " Two people can accomplished more than twice as much as one; they get a better return for their labor" Eccl. 4:9 NLT. Consult people who had earlier trod that path, mentors; seek counsel from specialist or expert in that field before you quit and form alliance with people of like minds, remember " Two are better than one, three are even better. Mark you! Always seek for facts not opinion of men. Our man, Mr. Darby, lost his hard earned gold (treasure) mine on this platform. He doesn’t seek expert’s advice when the mine seems unfruitful and waste.

Above all, the wisest man says, " Notice the way God does thing; then fall into line. Don't fight the ways of God, for who can straighten out what he has made crooked?" Eccl. 7:13NLT. The result of man's tenaciously pursued evil intentions has smeared several indelible splotch on human history - holocausts, Massacres, annihilations etc. So, if your dream does not fit into God's divine plan for this world, whether good or bad, it will not succeed.

In conclusion, as you aspire to hang on and persevere tenaciously to that clear cut goals, fear God and obey his commands, for this is the duty of every person. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret tings, whether good or bad, Eccl. 12: 13 - 14.NLT

so,

" The potency to desire, possess lies in you Your Thirst, if really consuming, turns to things And the dreams possessively pursue product it donates, So whatever you conceive and plan to achieve Yours it would be in all its abundance." - Ajayi, Olayide E
