www.dvdexploder.com (Region Free DVD Projects Company)

edit

DVDExploder.com, also known simply as DVDExploder, is a UK based research company that specialises making DVD and Blu-ray players region free. This article should give you an oversight into the website’s history, aims and objectives.

History

edit

A simplified version of DVDExploder.com was set up in 2003 by its founder, Paul Lever - and catered to a rising number of users each day. However, as interest in the site and its message grew, so did the time taken to update the database with handset codes and answer individual enquiries. In 2006, a small team was gathered to research new and original codes to make devices multi-region. This in turn freed up resources to redesign the website and develop solid, visitor-orientated relationships.

Objectives

edit

In essence, the role of the website is very straightforward - to ensure that as many DVD players become region free as possible - by using simple DVD codes. The database itself was created as a reaction to DVD manufacturers creating region-locked machines. Here an example of how unfair the act of region-locking can be. If a person goes on holiday to another 'region' and buys a DVD, it would be fair to assume they'd be able to play it on their DVD player when they got home... As some of you may have discovered, this is certainly not the case. Due to region locking, your 'right' to watch the purchased DVD has been taken away from you and the disc will not play on your machine.

Why have region locks?

edit

You may have wondered why manufacturers design DVD players with the ability to change region coding in the first place? In fact, region codes exist so that DVD player manufactures can set them to whichever region of the world they choose - without having to alter the costly hardware itself. Once they've adjusted the DVD region, all they have to do is ship the region-locked machines out to buyers - and wipe their hands of the required zoning requirements. We are not meant to know about all of this though - making it all the more important for DVDExploder to distribute unlock codes to DVD owners worldwide.

It's our belief that companies, including film distributors, make enough money without trying to squeeze an extra buck when it come to film release dates. In fact, the whole situation bothered me so much I decided that a website was necessary where people could unlock their devices and watch movies from anywhere in the world.

edit

So there you have it, a little bit about the development of the website and the motivation for creating it in the first place. I hope that you'll be able to benefit from the team's knowledge of DVDs and show your contempt towards region zoning, by making your DVD equipment region free.

Please note, there is a small fee for all new registrants to cover company expenses. DVDExploder is not a charity website or user based forum for 'dumping' random unlock sequences.
