Vivanativa is one of the most successful bands in the genre of Rock en Español to come from Puerto Rico. A quintet formed in 1997, it's career continues to the present day.

History

edit

The band was formed in 1997 and is headed by friends Javier Gómez(singer/guitarist) and Nabeel Abdulrahman(former guitarist for Ricky Martin); both natives of Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. The result of diverse influences on the bands musical style, incorporating elements of Classic and Latin Rock, Funk, and Jazz is a uniquely Latin American sound with a popular following in it's native Puerto Rico and other Latin American countries. Vivanativa's self-titled first album was recorded under the auspices of Ralph Mercado at latin music record label RMM Rocks. Two albums, 2002's Claro and 2006's Dulce Sodio were released by Universal Latin. The band is known internationally with successful shows in Mexico, Argentina and Spain, and has had many opportunities to showcase it's talents by touring throughout Latin America, and opening for Aerosmith during the second leg of the Route of All Evil Tour at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan in November 2006. Collaborations include works with La Secta's Gustavo Laureano, and reggaeton artist Voltio. Recent accolades include a nomination for Song of the Year at the Premio Lo Nuestro 2010 awards.
