I've been taking a look at what User:VWBot was doing before it went down to see what else people might want DpmukBOT to do so as to get as much as I can in the first BRFA. I'm only going to deal with simple WP:CP tasks for now but there does appear to be some other tasks that I could do simply and so are worth doing before BRFA. Looking at VWBot's tasks (taken from it's user page):

  1. Transclude daily pages created by CorenSearchBot to WP:SCV.
This is essentially being done as it adds the appropriate header.
  2. Add/remove {{adminbacklog}} and {{backlog}} tags to WP:COPYCLEAN pages.
As I say I'd only currently want to do this at WP:CP. Is a reasonably simple task although I'd need some agreement on when to add and remove it.
  3. Act as a backup for DumbBOT and Zorglbot for their tasks at WP:CP if/when they are down.
    I'm already doing these tasks.
  4. Add pages newly tagged with {{close paraphrasing}} to the appropriate daily page at WP:CP.
Don't currently do this. If we wanted this done it would be trivial to do as the code would be nearly identical to the copypaste code.
  5. Relist articles from daily WP:CP pages when their day is cleared but they have been inadvertently missed.
The way my code currently works this would, to some extent, happen automatically. However instead of being relisted they'd be treated as a new listing that the bot was adding. This isn't ideal but given that it does ensure they wouldn't be missed I think this is a low priority and so something to be done later. If people disagree then I'll look into it.
  6. Act as a backup for CorenSearchBot.
Currently have no intention to do this! User:madman seems to be getting somewhere with a replacement.
  7. Add pages newly tagged with {{copypaste}} to the appropriate daily page at WP:CP.
    Already doing this.

It would be great if I could have some regulars at WP:CP comment on the above and/or add any of their own suggestions. Comments on what the bots currently doing would also be appreciated.

Just to make it clear in case anyone thinking I'm running an illegal bot, that, although I refer to it as a bot here, it currently isn't in the strictest sense as I check all of it's edits manually. Dpmuk (talk) 02:43, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

All I can say is that it's like Christmas all over again. :D I don't know much about bots and how we maintain them, but if there's anything that you can do to make it so that if you decide to leave Wikipedia the bot can be maintained by somebody else, I will be forever in your debt. As you know, our bots tend to stop working after a while. And speaking of which, I've got to go look at Madman's replacement for CorenSearchBot! That's awesome! If you'd rather this comment be formatted differently, please let me know. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:20, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Specific task questions edit

  1. Close paraphrasing listings
Yes, please, but not the ones that say free=yes. It would be really nice, though, if we could modify that template in some way so we can flag the bot not to relist it. There are cases where a close paraphrase is probably close enough to constitute plagiarism, but not a copyright issue. I've typically rewritten those just to keep them from relisting, but that's time-consuming and time is something I don't have that much of anymore. Maybe a hidden note of some kind that it's been reviewed for copyright issues? Is that possible? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:06, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
  2. Adminbacklog
Sure, although I've never seen any evidence that anybody pays attention to it. I'd say if there are more than three "old" days, it's a backlog. I expect this to be routine, as I really only get to work on them on the weekends now and don't always get caught up when I do. This weekend, I'm traveling, which isn't going to help. :/ What would be really helpful here is if your bot could conscript active admins to do the work. "Hi, AdminX. DpmukBOT has determined that you're online. Congratulations; you have been chosen to complete a day's listing at the copyright problems board. Please see WP:CPAA for help." LOL! If only. :D --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:06, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the replies. I'll try to work on doing the coding and sorting out a BRFA this evening, that is assuming no one throws me a curve ball at my RfA. Modifying the close paraphrase template will be relatively simple, maybe a parameter like botignore=yes although both parameter name and value could be pretty much anything. Writing the code to "conscript" admins would be, I think, relatively easy. Getting community consensus may be a fair bit harder! Dpmuk (talk) 17:29, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
LOL! I can only imagine. :D --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:31, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
