Doug Cocks is a Special Research Fellow in Human Ecology with the CSIRO Division of Ecosystem Sciences. Following a Master's degree in agricultural science at Melbourne University, he spent six years abroad teaching and researching at Cambridge University and University of California. His PhD in agricultural economics is from University of California, Davis. From 1973 he led research programs for CSIRO in various areas, including land use planning, natural resource policy and management, geographic information systems and decision support systems. He has written 100+ papers in refereed journals (ranging from engineering to law) and four books on aspects of human ecology. He was awarded the CSIRO medal for lifetime research achievement in 2003.
