Jourdan, South African heritage of the surname 'Jordaan'. On the 4th of August 1688, Jean Jourdan(b.1659-d.1698) and his younger brother Pierre Jourdan(b.1664-d.1723) set foot on land in Table Bay (Cape of Good Hope) from the ship 'China' (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie, Dutch East India Company owned) which they were travelling on.

Captain Samuel Janse van Grol left Rotterdam (Netherlands) on the 20th of March 1688. On board the China were 38 passengers, 156 seamen and 111 soldiers. 29 passengers and 14 seamen set foot on land when the China docked on the 4th of August 1688 in Table Bay. 20 of the seamen and passengers died on the way to Table Bay.
