We're All Thieves are a German rock band from Hamburg. The band was formed in 2012 by lead vocalist Janis Blanck, guitarist David Kinter, and drummer Timo Selent after previously discontinuing their former rock/electro project Touch Down Hero in late 2010. Blanck, Kinter and Selent completed the lineup by adding bassist Felix Mau, and Julian Danielczik on the rhythm guitar to the formation. According to the members of the band, the band's name was derived from the eponymous song by American rock band Circa Survive.
History
editPrior to forming We're All Thieves, Blanck, Kinter and Selent
...due to creative differences.
The band eventually broke up in late 2010.
In early 2012 the three of them decided to start a new band, abandoning the electronic component of their previous project and focusing on a more rock-oriented sound. The band's lineup was completed by bassist Felix Mau, whom Blanck had already worked with in previous projects, and Julian Danielczik on the rhythm guitar. After a number of songs were written, the members of the band decided to record their debut EP 'Secret Skies'. In the course of recording Secret Skies, Danielczik announced that he would leave the band after the first session of recordings. He stated that he made his decision based upon personal reasons.
Musical Style
editThe band describes its sound as a mix between pop punk and pop rock, although a number of We're All Thieves' songs also contain elements from heavier rock styles, notably post- and melodic hardcore. In an interview with PopVulture of March 4, 2014, the band named All Time Low, Yellowcard, Paramore and A Day To Remember to be among their most significant musical influences: "I think what distinguishes us [We're All Thieves] as a band is that we draw our ideas for new songs from a wide range of different music styles. A part of the lead line in one of our most recent songs, for instance, is based on a Coldplay song. Nonetheless, I would say some of our greatest influences include All Time Low, Yellowcard, Paramore and A Day To Remember among others."[1]
