Childhood Memories in Westport
editI have many childhood memories in Westport, I spent my Summers here, I would be sent over from the UK to my Cousin's house. We got up to all kinds of mischief. I remember robbing apple orchards, and taking my grandfather big black bike, so we could make a quick get away, before we were caught, by the Nuns who owned the Orchards. We spent many a day at the beach, eating sand sandwiches, and drinking warm orange. It was a carefree time, and we spent all our time outdoors. I just want to add in this " I loved my summer holidays" Carmel
Going to the Cinema
editThis was a big treat, we would be allowed to a matinee show every two weeks. I remember saving my pocket money, to buy popcorn and ice cream, this was a real treat. We would be up at the crack of dawn driving my Aunt mad with excitement. I remember going to see the Nancy Drew mysteries, and re-enacting them afterwards, we would get a few days mileage out of one movie.
Fishing in the local River
editMy Father was a avid fisher man, and spent a lot of time on the local lakes fishing, every once in while he would bring me and my cousins for a day out. My Aunt would pack up a picnic for us all and off we would go. We would stand on the shore of the lake with bamboo sticks and pretend we were fishing, watching my Dad bring in rainbow trout, which he would bring home for our tea. We would run up and down the shore of the lake having great fun, waiting in anticipation for our picnic.
