Illinois State University Agriculture department uses various ways and techniques to prepare students for their career in the agriculture industry. Illinois State has 10 different undergraduate programs for the agriculture department. The Agriculture program at Illinois State requires 200 hours of clinical experiences and a 14 week student teaching experience.

Agribusiness

Agribusiness program prepares students who are looking for a career in: sales ,finance, grain and livestock, marketing, farm management, food industry management. This program requires causes in agriculture, economics and finance, mathematics and other business courses. [1]

Agriculture Communications and Leadership

Agriculture communications and leadership program prepares students who are looking for a career in: agricultural press, corporate communications,ex-tension education. This program doesn't just limit students to working on a farm but a lot more other industries and career fields as well. [2]

Agriculture Education Agriculture education program is for students who are looking for a career helping future students, who are going to be in there “same shoes”. This job is for preparing students to be able to work in the classrooms to give students the knowledge needed for working in the agriculture field. [3]

Agronomy Management

Agronomy management program is for students who are looking for a career in sales, marketing of equipment, and by companies specializing in agronomic products like seeds, fertilizer, and pesticides. This program gives students the opportunity to have a career with local, state, and federal governmental agencies, and organizations like: Soil and Water Conservations Districts, Ex-tension Service, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. [4]

Animal Industry Management

This program is for are interested in careers in animal production, animal product sales, and agribusiness that focus on animals. It also gives students the opportunity bro gain experience with agricultural and natural resource industries. [5]

Animal Science This program is for students who are interested in having a career in veterinary,animal research,genetics, reproductions , nutrition, and pharmaceutical. This program uses various techniques to give the students the experience needed for their career choice. [6]

Crop and Soil Science

This programs deals with careers that work towards improving plant production,profit, quality, and soils physical , chemical and microbial characteristics. This program is very hands-on and offer a lot of experience. [7]

Food Industry Management

This programs is for people who are interested in a career in: sales representatives, commodity merchandises, market analyst , supply chin managers for retail food companies, agricultural business organizations, market research firms, government agencies, financial institutional,and more. [8]

Horticulture and Landscape Management

This program prepares students for a career indesign/build/maintenance, turf grass, greenhouse and nursery industry. This program prepares the students and provide hands-on experience. [9]

Pre-Veterinary

This programs requires taking Animal science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math courses. Students will graduate with a DVM and be able to find career opportunities in clinical practice with government agencies an d private industries. This program gives students the opportunity to have hands-on experience with working with animals. [10]


Illinois State Farm Illinois State farm is located near Lexington. At Illinois State farm there are events like Steer watching. This is a way that the students can have a hands-on experience with working with animals. Students who are taking agriculture classes get to join in on activities that take place at the farm.

Additional Information

The Ropp Agricultural building was completed in 1982 as was named after Clarence R. Ropp. Mr. Ropp was a long time supporter of agricultural education.He was also one of the leaders who helped get Illinois State Agriculture Education Program accredited in 1962. The Ropp Agricultural building is located on N. Main St. next to the Hancock Stadium. In the Ropp building there are classrooms, laboratories, a judging arena, and offices. [20]
