skimming and scanning are speed reading techniques that helps the reader or the student to read quickly covering a variety of specific information. It is important in the sense that it saves time, it searches for specific information only ,a reader gets a very basic idea what the reading is about , also one can get more information very quickly as the reader can read more in a short space of time
