The South African Institute for Distance Education is a non-profit organisation formed in 1995. Based in Johannesburg, but operating based in Johannesburg but opperating throughout South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.[1] This organization offers of education and training so to increase equitable and meaningful access to knowledge, skills and learning.[2]SAIDE is a member of National Association of Social Change Entities in Education (NASCEE)[3].

== History==

In 1994. The ANC commissioned SAIDE to organise a review of current distance education and also to suggest how distance would contribute integrally to the proposed education and training system [4]

In 2004, SAIDE advised the Council on Higher Education a range of issues around regulation, funding and co-ordination of distance education for the Minister of Education. [5]
