REVIEW OF LITERATURE
To achieve self-sufficiency in food grain production, it is essential to improve the productivity of Boro rice to a greater extent in Bangladesh. Irrigation is essential for Boro rice production in dry period in Bangladesh. As water is important factor for successful cultivation of Boro rice, it affects the physical characters of rice plant, growth, yield and nutrients status of the soil. Since water requirement is greatly influenced by soil and climatic factors, it is not very easy to make precise recommendation regarding the number and amount of irrigation to be applied. Many scientists and researchers have reported on water requirements for different irrigation levels, their effects on the increase of yield and yield contributing characters and optimum use of water in Boro rice.
