Traian Zorzoliu - The Genius Constructor of the Geto-Dacian Fortress at Drăgănești-Olt

In the city of Drăgănești Olt, the construction of a Geto-Dacian fortress, initiated by the ingenious museographer Traian Zorzoliu, is reaching its final stages. This project is based on archaeological excavations conducted by the ROMANIAN ACADEMY in a Geto-Dacian settlement at Sprâncenata, Olt County. Representing the first reconstruction in Romania of a Geto-Dacian fortress made of wood and earth, in a palisade structure, the fortress is designed for tourist accommodation, offering a vivid image of the Geto-Dacian culture in the southern part of the country. It reflects the rare cultural and spiritual refinement of ancient times.

Additionally, the Geto-Dacian fortress serves as a living school for those interested in learning the crafts of the Dacians, their religion, astronomy, and the daily activities of the inhabitants. It becomes a school of Dacian history for young students. The fortress comprises various buildings such as residences, a commander's house, temple, council hall, blacksmith's shop, household annexes, gates, observation points, and guard posts. Completion is currently at 70%, and the elevated position of the fortress offers a beautiful panorama of the Olt Valley and its surroundings.

The progress of the project faced a setback following the passing of Traian Zorzoliu. Local authorities seem overwhelmed by the scope of the project; however, solutions for completion were left by Traian Zorzoliu. His son, Cristian Zorzoliu, has volunteered to assist, having been involved with his father from the conception of the fortress construction to the current stage.
