The street layout of Buffalo is based on the grid plan of Joseph Ellicott in 1802, and subsequently modified over the years, with features added by Frederick Law Olmsted in the late 1880s. The demolition of the Pan American Exposition afer 1901 led to the creation of North Buffalo.
