Article Critique

I visited the AMA Motocross page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: history, locations and sponsors. The original article is well developed and has most of the information pertaining to AMA Motocross readily available. However, being a huge motocross fan, I found a couple areas that could use an update. First off, I would like to comment on the history section of this article. Motocross was originally founded in Europe before it made its way to the United States.[1] The first bikes that were imported to the United States was the Swedish company Husqvarna. The (AMA), American Motorcyclist Association was started in 1970 and was turned into a series of races and only the top Americans would be declared the U.S. National Champ. The first American champion was a college student from the University of Michigan. His name was Dick Burleson. The first AMA championship in 1972 started out in Atlanta,GA on April 16th. Followed by Memphis, TN on May 7th, Sacramento, CA on May 14th, Orange, CA on May 21st, Carlsbad, CA on May 28th, Washington, IN on June 11th, Lake Tahoe, NV June 18th  and ended with the final race of the series on September 2nd in Talladega, AL.  Sponsorship is huge in racing, any type of racing really. Sponsorship started with motocross in 1974, with the first big sponsor being Yamaha “Super Series”. A couple years later a bigger sponsor came on board to show their love for the sport, Toyota. Toyota was a big sponsor for years until the 2003 super cross series when THQ took over sponsorship and then the 2006 super cross series when Amp’d Mobile sponsored their first series. The current and biggest sponsor of motocross is Monster Energy. They took over in 2008 and have continued to amp up this sport!
