The Lagarda surname is of french origin and is one of those refering to the place someone lived or had lands. In this case the surname comes from a town named Lagarde, located in Haute Garonne, southeast from Toulouse, capital of the Midi-Pyrénées region, France.

During the Middle Ages it was a common practice for a person to be known by the place where they lived or by a specific characteristic of that area. In time, the name of the town became the name of the family. Le Gard was a name used to describe the "Tower Guard".

The House of Lagarda is a Noble famility very old in Aragón, Navarra and the Basque provinces. Their main residence was in Arcos (Galicia). The descendants of the family served alongside the Órdenes de Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara y Montesa, corporations created for fighting against the muslims, cooperating in La Reconquista, and keep the order, potecting the pilgrims and injureds, Carlos III and San Juan de Jerusalén, Religious-military orders founded in the XI century; many times in las Reales Chancillería de Valladolid y Granada, in La Real Compañía de Guardias Marinas and in La Real Audiencia de Oviedo. The coat of arms is composed by a Silver and a golden fruit tree, sinople border and a silver chain.
