Portrait of Chief Ntsinde of the Myeni Tribe

The Myeni Tribe This is a tribe that originated in Zululand near Babanango, and led by the late Chief Mdolomba. The Myeni clan belong to the Ntungwa-Nguni group, and are closely related to the Mabasos or the amaCunwini. When chief Mdolomba died, a dispute for the chieftainship arose, and resulted in Mlambo and his followers to leave and go to a piece of land in Eshowe. When Mlambo passed-on his two sons, Ngwenya (senior) and Ntsinde (junior) divided the tribe, calling each section after themselves.[1]

Chief Duma son of Ngwenya believed in the legend that when a hornbill enters a kraal and cries out, it’s a bad omen. This lead to the Chief fleeing with his people to the coast near the entSeleni River. The chief fled again due to the omen and settled near the Umflozi River. The Myeni clan went to Matubatuba on the Umfolozi River. The tribe was then chased away by the Gasa Ndwandwes and fled to the Ingwavuma River near the Ubombo range.[1]

In 1817 Duma entered into a relationship with the Mngomezulu Chief, Zondiwe. Maguma (the head of Ntsinde section of the tribe) joined with Duma as well. The new settlement area proved to be barren. Vuma, the grandson of Maguma, got permission from Mpande to occupy the land around the Tshaneni Mountain on both sides of the Mkuze River. Mdolomba remained there for 25 years until Zondiwe’s heir, Lubelo, drove Mdolomba out. Mnenezi, Mdolomba’s grandson was murdered by the Mngomezulu Chief in 1882 and Madhlaka, his son, eventually assumed the chieftainship.[1]

Myeni parted ways with the Clever Boys and is currently a free agent. He is training with the players from his SAB League club Myeni XI. “At the moment I am training. I have a team called Myeni XI, so I have been doing some training with the boys. I have been concentrating on that, building the young boys from the street. I am keeping fit,” the 30-year-old tells KickOff.com. “There have been some teams that have shown an interest, but I won’t mention any names. The thing that has been holding back is the terms and conditions of the teams. Obviously I have been training and some of them have been in contact with my agent. They’ve brought offers and there’s been some discussions, but at the end of the day I have to make the best decision for me and my family.
