Giday

edit

My name, as my username suggests, is Dave Smith and I hail from Adelaide, in the Great Land of Oz.

I have come to Wikipedia primarily in response to finding out that a biography of a person whom I know needs improvement to bring it into line with Wikipedia standards, particularly with regard to (but not restricted to) Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons.

I emphasise "primarily" in that should I find the process "works" I shall endeavour to provide appropriate input to other articles in which I have some interest, for the betterment of the Wikipedia community and it's reputation at large. Like many editors here I have many and varied interests (far too many to list) and hope in time to become a welcome, valuable and productive member of the Wikipedia community.

There are many criticisms of Wikipedia in the wider community, some positive and some negative. Rather than engage in debate "outside" without first experiencing for myself the various processes which produce good (and not so good) articles, I figure the best way to learn about these is to become involved as time and other interests permit, and see where it leads.

Pig wrestling...

Before coming here, I was offered some really good advice -
"Don't wrestle with a pig - you'll both get covered in crap but the pig will enjoy it".
I rest my case...

Potential Wikipedia:COI Disclosures:

edit

I am directly involved in the work of David_Talbott and the thunderbolts.info website. I do not receive any income or finacial reward for my involvement, it is purely voluntary.

COI statement

edit

I intend to follow, as much as is humanly possible, all appropriate policies and guidelines (and as with matters of law, both the spirit and the written word thereof will be considered) with regard to my proposed edits of Talbott's page and any other edits I perform. That is to say, regardless of any personal views or bias I may have, I do not intend to reflect same in my edits. I am, however, human and expect there will be the odd occasion when I may violate my own stated intentions, and in such cases I will gladly revert or modify incorrectly applied edits if they are shown, through rational discussion on the talk pages of the article concerned, to be inappropriately biased.

Notes

edit

I have a medical condition serious enough to be on a disability pension. One of the symptoms of the said condition is that at times, I can find it difficult to recall information. As such I have a need to keep notes of matters which relate to the material I edit on Wikipedia. As I do not have the Wikipedia software on my computer (nor do I wish to attempt to have due to the complications of installing and setting up same, and the space and computer memory requirements), the only sensible way I can store Wikipedia information in a way in which I can readily access and read it, is by using a subpage of my user space. I intend to comply with Wikipedia policies in regard to these notes (as with everything I do on Wikipedia), and due to a recent (current at the time of writing) MfD discussion it has come to my attention that the name I initially gave the page and the area of my user page I linked it from was a cause of concern to some editors. I undertake to re-name the page as soon as the current MfD is finalized and I have already removed the potentially offensive link.

This is my page, get yer own!

edit

As is customary within Wikipedia (as I embarrassingly found out within my first day or two here), I would appreciate it if others would abstain from editing this, my user page. Anyone is welcome to post messages and proposed edits to this page on my talk page, as appropriate. Just click on the "discussion" tab at the top of this page.

That was a huge waste of space ... like some of the Wankerpedians I've come across :)

An essay under construction.
