Early Life
editShane Maher was born in Lawrence in a apartment with his mother and sister, his dad was never there and was constantly in and out of jail due to his drug and alcohol addiction. His mom was on Section 8 housing, EBT, and Food Stamps just to provide food for them. Once Shane grew up he decided to do something to help make money so he started boxing, walking to the boxing gym everyday after school. He was forced to move in with his father due to his mother's financial issues which ended up with her leaving him and living in Missouri.
Amateur Career
editHe started boxing at a very young age but didn't start fighting till he was 10, he was trained by David Ortiz and Jose "Bugzy" Martinez for his amateur career. He is trained by Puerto Rican trainers and has the flow like a cuban or Bori fighter. He lost his first amateur bout almost giving up completely. After that he won fight after fight only losing controversial decisions in National Stage tournaments. Before turning Pro he won 11 consecutive fights and hasn't lost in over 2 years. He was ranked #4 in the 123 pound division and beat the #1 ranked fighter in the nation. He lost the Nationals in the finals due to points and was forced to be ranked #4.
Professional Career
editOn October 25, 2017 he accepted and decided to turn pro under Bob Arum's Top Rank Promotion's with a guaranteed $400,000, yet he didn't make it public till January 2018. He will make his pro debut on August 17 in Tacoma, Washington in the Tacoma Dome live on National Television. After suffering personal issues he backed out of the fight and got his contract suspended. Three months later he makes his return in a 125 pound undercard bout against Milan Savic at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts for a guaranteed $300,000. Shane said "getting my contract suspended was the best thing that could happen because I am now signed to Matchroom Boxing and Dazn TV and resigned to Top Rank making my checks a lot bigger." Matchroom Boxing and Dazn TV own all the rights to Shane's fights for four years worth $5 Million while working alongside his old promotor Top Rank.
