Dain Blair is the owner and founder of GrooveWorx (Formerly Groove Addicts), a production music company based in Santa Monica, CA.[1]

Early Life

Born April 15, 1947, Philadelphia, PA. Moved to Panama Canal Zone at age 5 after Dain’s father went to work on the canal as an electrical engineer. Spent the next 14 years growing up there, graduating from Cristobal High School in 1966. Headed back to the U.S. attending St. Petersburg College and playing in bands on the weekends to help make ends meet.

Music Career

Dain’s experience over the past 45 years covers everything from playing guitar, bass and lead vocals in touring bands, working as a DJ over the airwaves in Florida, to producing chart records, national TV commercials and TV and film trailer scores. After college Dain worked as a radio DJ and later as the Program Director for the eight station radio chain of Walter Weeks Broadcasting. In 1976 Dain was hired by Capitol Records and moved to Los Angeles where he worked on the labels major artist releases, such as Paul McCartney, Bob Seger, Steve Miller, The Little River Band, Natalie Cole, etc… After leaving Capitol Dain began producing and managing artist independently racking up multiple chart records including a #1 record with Exile’s, “I Want to Kiss You All Over”, after Dain introduced the band to Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, a hit music producing team out of the UK.

In 1985 Dain was hired by one of the leading commercial music houses in the country HLC-Killer Music. In 1989 he started the Killer Tracks music library which was later bought by BMG Music in 1995. Dain moved on to start his own custom music house Groove Addicts In 1996. In addition to producing music for hundreds of national TV spots, Groove Addicts scored the music for hit TV shows like “Deal Or No Deal”- (NBC), “The Goode Family” (ABC), “Tattoo Highway” (A&E), “Super Nanny” (ABC) and “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” – (ABC).[2]

From 2004 through 2007 Dain also had the privilege of producing B.B. King, Jose Feliciano and Patti LaBelle for the “One Touch” Diabetes campaign. Another unique feature of Groove Addicts was their representation of major feature film composers for commercial work which included the likes Danny Elfman, Stewart Copeland, Thomas Newman and Mychael Danna.[3]

Drawing on his experience Founding the Killer Tracks Library, Dain launched the Groove Addicts Production Music Catalog in 1997 as a Division of Groove Addicts. The library grew to seventeen different unqiue library labels containing over 65,000 music titles. Groove Addicts also began composing a select series of albums for feature film trailers in 2005 titled “Full Tilt”. This successful series of trailer CD’s was used in over 100 feature films including “Wanted”, “I Am Legend”, “No Country For Old Men”, “Hitman” “X-Men Wolverine” “Wolfman” “Robin Hood” and “Valkyrie”. The library division of Groove Addictsw was sold to Warner Chappell Music in March of 2010.[4]

The custom division of Groove Addicts was rebranded as “GrooveWorx”, and continues to score TV shows, commercials , feature film trailers and world class branding services for radio stations. Some of GrooveWorx client radio stations include BBC Radio 2 – UK, Bayern 3 – Munich-Germany, Radio SAW- Germany, Oe3 – Austria, Radio 24 -Switzerland, Z100 - New York and hundreds more.[5] After a 3 year non-compete GrooveWorx re-launched into the movie trailer scoring business and has recently licensed it’s music and sound design into dozens of major feature film trailers including “Deadpool 2”, “Equalizer 2”, “Skyscraper”, “Red Sparrow”, “Black Panther”, etc…[6].

After music Dain’s other passion is photography. Over the past twenty years Dain has taken tens of thousands of landscape photos using multiple Nikon cameras. He especially enjoys photographing sunrises, sunsets and every ocean on the planet, including recent adventures in Antarctica, Patagonia and Icelnd.
